| For those wanting to experience a unique combination of wildflowers, wildlife and spectacular mountain scenery just a few hours from Cape Town, a short excursion up the Cape West Coast is ideal. Wildspace has discovered a tranquil guesthouse located on a large private estate with its own private nature reserve, only an hour by car from Cape Town's international airport. Here you can relax and feel part of the peaceful life of rural South Africa and its clean crisp air and star-filled night skies. |
Day One
Transfer from Cape Town to Bartholomeus Klip (the property will arrange for your transfer, or you can drive yourself). If you arrive in time, go on an afternoon game drive.

Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse is unique. There are only five bedrooms in this small hotel located on a large private estate, which is both a working wheat and sheep farm and nature reserve, with a spectacular mountain backdrop. The reserve is the only one in the country where orphaned buffalo calves are reared by Jersey cows, and where an ambitious project to reintroduce the extinct quagga is underway (through cross-breeding)! The Victorian homestead, built in 1730, has been meticulously renovated, and the fine fabrics and family antiques make you feel as if you are a guest in someone's home. Nearby, the deck of the salt-water swimming pool is ideal for sunbathing or sundowners, and the boathouse, where the wonderful brunches are served, has a spectacular view over the dam. The food is in the French tradition but with a local flavour and is one of the highlights of a stay at Bartholomeus Klip. |
Day Two
Today you will go on an optional morning game drive, after which you will return for brunch. Relax around the farmhouse, until it is time for your afternoon drive, which will end with sundowners in the veld. The animals are easy to spot in the low-growing fynbos, especially since there are more than 500 head of game.

|
The vegetation in the nature reserve is the characteristic fynbos, whose unique and beautiful wildflowers and low, hardy bushes form one of the world's seven floral kingdoms. It has been declared a National Heritage Site in recognition of its importance as the last major habitat of the geometric tortoise, one of the world's rarest reptiles. The reserve is home to a modest stock of wildlife, including eland, springbok, wildebeest, gemsbok, baboon, jackal, lynx and leopard, as well as some 160 bird species. The area is also renowned for its springtime (September/October) flowers, with sheets of colour and a myriad of different bulbs, orchids and daisies to be discovered on closer inspection. |

You will be transferred back to Cape Town after brunch.
